How do you capture the attention of an ever-changing audience? Nate Young has spent the better part of his life trying to answer that question. At Hopworks Urban Brewery in Portland, Oregon, Nate wore many hats, from bookkeeper to Sustainability Manager with many other stops in between. His most exciting accomplishment was achieving B Corp certification for the brewery in 2015, and then working with HUB’s marketing team to make sure that employees and customers both understood what the certification meant using internal and external communications. One of many outcomes of those efforts was Long Root Ale, a collaboration with Patagonia Provisions, celebrating the intersection of sustainable business and great beer.
In addition to teaching at PSU, Nate currently works as an elementary teacher and a consultant for a variety of craft breweries in the Portland area. Current projects include a business assessment and expansion planning as well as environmental footprinting and helping to create messaging around sustainability efforts. He holds an MBA from Portland State University and a BS in Education from Northern Arizona University.
