San Jose, CA – Announced in early March, Craft Beverage Expo was received with even more enthusiasm than show organizers originally expected, by an audience excited about the collaboration among the craft beer, wine and spirit markets. The event, scheduled for May 6-8, 2014 at the San Jose Convention Center, will provide a forum to exchange ideas, showcase best practices and ultimately help its participants drive growth and increase market share.
Industry insiders are excited not only by the concept of the event, but also by the seasoned team of management professionals who are collaborating to ensure its success. Craft Beverage Expo is the brainchild of Kellie Shevlin, who is combining her experience producing trade shows with her involvement in—and passion for—the alcoholic beverage and food service industry. Kellie earned her Certification in Event Management (CEM) designation in 2007, was featured by Exhibit City News on its "40 under 40" list, holds wine certifications for the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) and the Society of Wine Educators Certified Scholar of Wine (CSW).
Shevlin spent a year researching the craft beverage market and getting counsel from industry leaders at WineAmerica, California Craft Brewers Association and several state craft spirits and beer guilds. She identified a void in the space and found a need to service the craft segment specifically and, more importantly, the need for a post-production focus to improve businesses of craft beverage companies nationally. Her first move after completing the research and business plan was assembling an event production “dream team” to bring her vision to life.
The first, and arguably most integral, member of that team is Vincent Polito, managing director of VP International and co-producer of Craft Beverage Expo. With 20 years of trade show experience, Polito, has managed category-leading mega events, worked for the world’s largest show organizing company, launched events on five continents and has helped significantly turnaround underperforming trade shows and conferences. “I believe so strongly in the potential of Craft Beverage Expo, I’m backing it with a hand-picked collection of sales, operations and marketing powerhouses that have proven track records of success in the events’ business,” commented Polito.
One of those powerhouses is Marketing Design Group, the country’s leading agency specializing in event marketing. MDG has a 35 year history of marketing trade shows and currently promotes many of the largest and/or fastest growing shows in the U.S., ten of which are recognized by Trade Show Executive magazine as part of the “Gold 100.” MDG is well respected in the industry after having marketed one the most successful event launches in history (with 60,000 participants), increasing attendance by 40 percent for an underperforming show in the food industry and for having won more than 100 Art of the Show awards for marketing and design excellence, from the association that governs the event industry.
According to Shevlin, “I am lucky to have assembled renown Industry experts, talented marketers and proven sales and operations professionals who are all just as committed to ensuring the success of the inaugural Craft Beverage Industry as I am."
