Eric Van Drunen


Eric came from a non-traditional wine making background – high energy physics. While studying charmonium at a particle collider isn’t a routine path to wine making, it’s that same desire to discover the authentic unknown that drives the wine making at Charlie & Echo.

Eric’s wine making is a combination of minimalist, old-world techniques with creativity and modern technology. Wines range from the natural, made with nothing added and nothing taken away (first Certified Organic wine in San Diego using local grapes), to the creative and innovative, such as a series of hopped wines made in collaboration with a local brewery.

He is also involved heavily in the local wine industry, helping create the San Diego Urban Wineries trade association and the annual San Diego County Trade Tasting.
